Live up to your fullest Benildean potential by participating in CSB’s environmental programs.
Center for Built Environment and Logistics
The Center for Built Environment and Logistics (CBEL) is the office in charge of maintaining the facilities and managing the waste output of the Benilde campuses. You can find them at Greenway Square, Taft Campus.
Donate your Recyclable Materials
Better than throwing your recyclable waste in the correct segregation bin, you can donate them every first Friday of the month at the following drop-off points:
TAFT CAMPUS: MFC Gate.
D+A CAMPUS: Basement Parking, Muñoz Gate.
AKIC CAMPUS: Estrada Gate.
ATRIUM: Basement Parking near the Exit Ramp.
The collected recyclables are sold to Benilde’s external partners, and the acquired funds are used in supporting the college’s scholars. So, you’d be helping the environment and your fellow students— it’s hitting two birds with one stone! But don’t hit birds, that’s not very environmentally friendly.
These are the recyclable materials that you can donate: cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, newspapers, aluminum / tin cans.

DON'T WASTE WASTE
In the game of waste, going to the landfill isn’t the only ending. Even garbage deserves a second chance at life, and you can provide that by sending them over to organizations such as the ones below, to be thrown back into the cycle.
The Plastic Flamingo (The Plaf)
It can take 20-50 years for a piece of plastic to break down, and even then, that is all plastic does— break down into smaller and smaller plastics, which you may have heard be called micro plastics. The material doesn’t ever fully disappear, which is why it is one of the biggest villains in the fight against environmental degradation.
The Plastic Flamingo, also known as The Plaf, is a local enterprise dedicated to retrieving plastic waste and preventing them from contaminating out oceans and lands.
It was founded by the Lesage family in 2018, after their eyes were opened to the reality of plastic pollution while cycling from France to Cambodia on their honeymoon. Quite the love story, right?
This is how their initiative works: they collect plastic donations at their facilities or at certain drop-off points, then recycle the waste into new materials like ecoboards, coasters, and even furniture.

Humble Sustainability
Electronics is one of those things where, if they get old or break, you don’t really know what to do with them. But they can also be given a new life, too!
Humble Sustainability is a local organization with a vision to “bring back 1 billion electronics into circularity.” They accept your unused IT equipment, and work with you on a plan to sell them to B2B resellers, recyclers, and refurbishers. Prizing transparency, they also send you a report on what happens to the equipment after they’re sold.

Papemelroti
Calling all stationery lovers! Just when you think there can’t be anything better than walking into a store full of notebooks and other knick-knacks, here comes Papemelroti, a specialty store full of all of that and more— but made with recycled paper, reclaimed wood, and other sustainable materials!
Shopping your stationery and even gift needs at Papemelroti is like hitting two birds with one stone; you can make Earth-friendly purchases, and support local artisans who form the backbone of the business. Can we get a “sobraaaaang Filipina!”
Starbucks
Choose to Reuse
Over 1 billion plastic cups are thrown away each day, yet they happen to be one of the easiest single-use plastics to find an alternative for. Some beverage-centric brands like Starbucks offer 10 pesos off your drink when you come with a reusable tumbler.
Grounds for the Garden
Have you ever gone into a Starbucks and encountered a mysterious basket near the reusable cups display? Well, every now and again, the baristas leave out bags of their used coffee grounds— which you can take home for free to use in your compost or fertilizer? Any plantitas / titos in this coffee house?
Biblio
Is it just us, or do book prices just keep on getting higher and higher? Not to worry, because you always have the option of buying second-hand. Biblio is a specialty bookstore dedicated to selling pre-loved books, from precious vintage copies printed in the early 1900s, to more contemporary books. Think of it as just going to the library, except once you check the book out, you never have to return it.
Prolonging the life cycle of existing products like books is crucial in minimizing your environmental footprint. And what’s great about second-hand shopping is that you kind of get to travel back in time and acquire things that may not even be in production any longer, like an old edition of a book that hasn’t been sold in ages.

Grab is getting even greener!
You can now donate PhP 2.00 for every GrabCar or GrabTaxi ride, or PhP 1.00 with every GrabFood order! The funds collected from this program go toward a mangrove-planting project in La Union, in close collaboration with the locals of the area.
